How is this worked out?

These figures are for the 2022 scheme. The 2021 scheme uses (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 — see the VTU 2021 page. Because the regulation says the formula “may be used”, a conversion letter issued by VTU overrides it.

Clause 22OB6.7 of the VTU B.E./B.Tech Regulations 2022 says this formula “may be used” for employment and higher studies, with the worked example 8.20 → 82.0%. Last checked 23 September 2026. Your SGPA from your results

Paste your VTU 2022 result table, or type each subject’s grade and credits.

Each line needs a VTU 2022 grade (O, A+, A, B+, B, C, P, F) followed by its credits, which is how result pages list them. The subjects go into the SGPA calculator below, where you can check and correct every row. Paste several semesters together to get your CGPA.

Official source: VTU B.E./B.Tech Regulations 2022, circulated 2 May 2023 (official PDF). SGPA = Σ(credits × grade points) ÷ Σ credits. Grade points and mark bands from clause 22OB6.1. Last checked 23 September 2026. Enter every semester’s subjects together and the same sum gives your CGPA. The percentage next to it applies the CGPA formula to a single semester, so read it as an estimate.

Marks you need to pass

Official source: VTU B.E./B.Tech Regulations 2022, circulated 2 May 2023 (official PDF). Clause 22OB6.3 of the VTU 2022 regulations: at least 40% of the CIE maximum to be allowed into the SEE, at least 35% of the SEE maximum, and 40% of the course total. Last checked 23 September 2026.

The exam minimum never moves: good internals lower what you need only down to that floor. This rule is for theory subjects; labs, projects and audit courses are assessed differently.

Official source: VTU B.E./B.Tech Regulations 2022, circulated 2 May 2023 (official PDF). The attendance clause of the VTU B.E./B.Tech Regulations 2022. VTU 2022 requires 85% attendance in each course. A shortage of up to 10% may be condoned by the Vice-Chancellor on the specific recommendation of the Dean or Principal — on medical grounds, or for NSS, NCC, Red Cross and recognised national, state and university events. Last checked 23 September 2026.

Where condonation exists, it is a request your college makes for stated reasons — not something you are owed. If you land in the middle band, raise it with your college straight away.
