This is only arithmetic: it finds the fewest subjects that cover the gap, and says nothing about which you’re likely to pass. Two smaller subjects you understand can be a safer bet than one big subject you’ve already failed.

Why largest credits first?

When the goal is the fewest subjects, taking the biggest ones first is optimal. It ignores which subjects you’re most likely to pass — that part is your call.
